Khelvachauri

Chelwatschauri (Georgian ხელვაჩაური ) is a small town in Georgia, in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. It is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name. The city is located in the Kachaberi level, on the right bank of the river Tschorochi. Chelwatschauri is 8 kilometers away from the city of Batumi. Chelwatschauri has 6143 inhabitants ( 2002).

The area of the city has always been inhabited since the Stone Age. The name Chelwatschauri is connected with the family name Chelwachadse that originates from this site.
