Khojavend District

Xocavənd is a rayon in the north of Azerbaijan. The capital of the district is the city Xocavənd. The rayon is situated in the internationally unrecognized Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, which has divided it into provinces Hadrut and Martuni.

Geography

The district has an area of 1,458 km ². The region is located in the mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh, 500-2725 meters above sea level.

History

The district was created in 1930. On October 23, 1993, the district was conquered by the Armenian army. 2009, the rayon of Azerbaijan according to information 41,500 inhabitants.

Economy

The region is dominated by agriculture. It is especially wine and grain grown and operated livestock.

Culture

One kilometer south of the village Azykh is the Azykh Cave, which was used by the Armenian soldiers as an arsenal.
