Khonuu

Chonuu ( Yakut and Russian Хонуу, also Chonu ) is a village ( selo ) in the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in Russia with 2476 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is located about 800 km as the crow northeast of the capital city of Yakutsk in the Republic Moma Selennjach Valley between the Momagebirge in the Northeast and the Tscherskigebirge in the southwest. It is located at the mouth of the Moma in the Indigirka, on the right bank.

Chonuu is the administrative center of Ulus Momski. The village is home to the rural community ( selskoje posselenije ) Momski nazionalny Nasleg, which also includes the village Suon - Tit (2 km southeast) part.

History

Though founded in the village in 1851 applies, as there a Russian Orthodox Church was established as a settlement center in the sparsely populated by Yakuts and Evens area. Since 1931 Chonuu administrative seat of Ulus ( Rajons ) is in its present form.

Traffic

Chonuu is not connected to the fixed line network. It is on a winter road that follows down partly on the ice of the river from the Ust- Nera Indigirka. Another track runs in a southeasterly direction over more than 200 km through the Momatal to the village Sassyr. The Indigirka apply below the rapids at breakthrough by the Tscherskigebirge from Chonuu again as navigable.

At the northeastern edge of Chonuu the Moma small airport is ( ICAO code UEMA ).
