Khorat-Thai

The Khorat Thai are an ethnic group in eastern Thailand.

Population

The Khorat Thai count a little more than 520,000 members (1984: more than 400,000). The largest group of Khorat Thai living in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima.

Language

The language of the Khorat Thai is considered a dialect of Thai, which lies between the high-level language and the Issan Lao.

History

The Khorat Thai are closely related to the Thai. They are, according to a theory descendants of Thai soldiers and Khmer women.
