Khwaeng

Khwaeng (Thai: แขวง ) are administrative units below the districts ( Khet ) in Thailand's capital Bangkok. They stand on a level with the tambon in the other provinces. In Bangkok there are 169 Khwaeng.

In the past, administrative units were in some regions of the country called below the provinces Khwaeng, the provinces themselves were called Mueang, a term that has been replaced by the administrative reform in the early 20th century by Changwat uniform. At the same time all got Khwaeng outside Bangkok uniform designation Amphoe. As before, the 16 provinces of Laos as Khwaeng ( ແຂວງ ) are referred to.
