Kiantajärvi

The Kiantajärvi is a lake in the Finnish countryside of Kainuu.

The lake is located in the municipality of Suomussalmi, ranging from a few kilometers to the Russian border.

The lake has a water area of ​​191.15 km ² and a length of 45 km. The water level varies from 195.5 to 199.5 m. The outflow is regulated since 1959. In Ämmänsaari, the administrative center of the municipality Suomussalmi, on the southern shore of the lake is a hydroelectric power plant. The water of the Kiantajärvi flows through the Emäjoki to Iijärvi, and further over the Kiehimänjoki to Oulujärvi and finally the Oulujoki the Gulf of Bothnia.
