Kili Island

The Kili Island ( Kule ) is a 0.93 km ² large upscale Atoll, which is part of the Marshall Islands and lies in the Ralik chain. Kili is one of the smallest islands of the Marshall Islands. On the island of 602 people ( as of 2005).

The island has little contact with the outside world, as the boat service is suspended for four months a year because of rough seas. During this time, the island is served only in an emergency by helicopter.

Staple crop on Kili is copra.

On November 2, 1948, the population of Bikini Atoll have been relocated to Kili Island, because there nuclear weapons tests were conducted by the U.S. military.
