Kim Gallagher

Kim Gallagher ( born June 11, 1964 in Philadelphia, † 18 November 2002 in Oreland, Philadelphia ) was an American track and field athlete and Olympian. You and Madeline Manning were the only Americans who have won more than 800 m per an Olympic medal.

Gallagher won at the XXIII. 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the silver medal in the 800 -meter run behind the Romanian Doina Melinte ( gold ) and before the Romanian Fita Lovin (bronze). In the XXIV Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, she won the bronze medal in the same discipline, behind the two East Germans Sigrun Wodars ( gold) and Christine Wachtel (silver).

At a height of 1.65 m her competition weight was 49 kg. Kim Gallagher died at the age of 38 from stomach cancer, where they suffered since 1995.
