Kim Geun-tae

Kim Geun -tae ( born February 14, 1947 in Bucheon, † December 30, 2011 in Seoul) was a South Korean politician. In the meantime, he was chairman of the ruling in South Korea between 2004 and 2007 Uri Party and from 2004 to 2006 Minister of Health. Kim was from 1996 until his death the South Korean National Assembly. In 1987 he was awarded, together with his wife in Jae- keun, the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award. He was the father of a son and a daughter.

Life

Kim Geun -tae was born on 14 February 1947 in Bucheon ( Gyeonggi -do). From 1968 he studied at the Seoul National University in 1972 and received a bachelor's degree in economics. In 1983, he founded the organization Mincheongryeon ( 민청련 ), which campaigned against the dictatorship and for the democratization of South Korea. Therefore, he was captured in 1985 and tortured for more than 3 weeks.

Kim died of a brain disease.
