Kim Il-sung Square

The Kim Il-sung Square is a monumental place in the downtown district of Chung- guyŏk of Pyongyang, while urban and symbolic center of the city. It is located south of the Mansu Hill, is traversed by the Sungri Street and spans the two administrative units Koyongrim -dong, east of the road, and Chung Song -dong, west of it. It takes its name from the " Eternal President " of North Korea Kim Il-sung.

With over 75,000 square meters, it is ranked 16th among the greatest places in the world.

History

The place was built in stages from 1953 with a construction period of around 30 years. Korean Art Gallery

Built in 1960, The Korean art gallery located just east of Sungri - road in the south of the square and stands opposite the Ministry of Foreign Trade. It also is a neoclassical building. In the museum, both modern and ancient Korean art is exhibited.

Headquarters of the Workers' Party of Korea

The headquarters of the Workers' Party of Korea provides, together with the Ministry of Foreign Trade, one of the two representative state buildings at the Kim Il-sung Square is located in the north of the square. She joins in the neoclassical style of the overall system. There is a large painting of Kim Il-sung on the facade.

Historical Museum

In the flat, neoclassical monumental north of the square, is since 1977 one of the most important museums in Pyongyang. The building was constructed in 1960 and is located east of the road. It treats the history of Korea from the Stone Age to the Japanese colonial period.
