Life

Kim Yeong- hyeon was born on 3 February 1955 in Ch'angnyŏng, Gyeongsangnam -do. He is a writer, poet and publisher of the publisher Silch'ŏn Munhak ( 실천 문학사 ). Despite his various literary activities his goal is clear: The period that he had to live to record and write about the things and the people he loved and yet had to see disappear.

The seventies and eighties were a period of suffering and pain for the principled and thoughtful intellectuals of the Korean society. Like many others, Kim was a victim of oppression during thirty years of dictatorship in Korea. Kim was was still detained at the university in 1977, due to his participation in a student movement. After two years in prison, he was drafted into the army directly after his release. Only with the end of the eighties and the entry into the first phase of democratization, it was Kim and other authors possible to publish the so-called ' After ' stories that brought the horrors of the military dictatorship to light. His first short story collection entitled A deep river flows into the distance ( 깊은 강 은 멀리 흐른다 ) is a product of his painful experiences of that time. Although the public interest in the ' After ' stories decreased over the years, Kim continued to write about the people who have suffered and struggled under the political oppression and those who have perished.

His books are a testament to its sturrköpfigen employment with the events of modern Korean history. Kim is an artist who acts as the voice of the people to which it has targeted the historical circumstances and he believes that literature is produced in reality and there rooted and as such only has the ability literature wounded souls to heal.
