Kincsem (Hungarian: " my treasure"; born March 17, 1874 in Kisbér, † March 17, 1887 in Kisbér ) was a Thoroughbred mare and is the - measured by the number of wins - most successful racehorse in history. Often referred to as a wonder mare brown Hungarian mare won all 54 races in which it was launched.

Descent

The father Cambuscan won as a two year old including the July Stakes from Newmarket and was third in the English St Leger, among others. The race record is not fully known. He was probably no superior race horse, but also qualified by today's standards for breeding. The mother Waternymph represented high class racing and won, among other things three year in the Nemzeti Dij ( di Hungarian 2000 Guineas ) and five year in the mare price plague ( it was later the Hungarian Oaks race ) and the Kaiser's Prize I. Classe to Cluj.

Racing career

Kincsem already started the age of two in ten races in Germany, Hungary and Austria. Considering the long and challenging time travel, this workload must be considered higher. For the present time it is difficult to imagine that a highly eingeschätztes horse would biennial so often brought to the start. In the coming years, the race stint was with 17 races as a three year old, 15 races as a four year old and twelve races age of five relatively high. In particular, one has to respecting the significant compared to today poorer transport conditions, which emphasize the power of the mare yet. She was the first horse, who succeeded three times to win the Grand Prize of Baden. Only Oleander could repeat this success, for which in both of Iffezheim - the location of the racetrack - streets were named.

Breeding career

Kincsem only a short breeding career was destined, as they already thirteen years old died after the birth of a foal to colic. Of the five offspring, she left behind - two stallions and three mares - died a stallion ( Kincs - Or) even shortly before its launch in the German Derby, but a mare ( Budagyöngye ) won the German Derby, another mare ( Ollyan - Nincs ) the Hungarian St. Leger. Their descendants gathered in Europe a total of 41 victories in classic races and had a great influence on European thoroughbred breeding.

The significant in the stud Röttgen family of Vinnitsa is over Ollyan - Nincs back to Kincsem. This family has such outstanding horses as Wahnfried (both multiple Group 1 winner) come (including winner in the GP of Baden), Wacholdis ( Champion Two-year 1950), Walesiana ( Classic winner ), Wauthi and Well Made and yet a large number of good and very good horses.

Talpra Magyar was not successful as a racehorse, but was probably set up as a stallion because of his famous mother and brought some horses that were 1 winner by today's standards group. Must be mentioned in particular his son Tokio, who was a very good race horse and a successful stallion in the old Danube monarchy.
