Kings of Convenience

Kings of Convenience (English kings of convenience ) are a Norwegian band. It is composed of Eirik Bøe and Erlend Øye Glambæk. Both were born in 1975 and known each other since age of 11.

Biography

Before they founded Kings of Convenience, Øye and Bøe played with in the rock band Skog ( Norwegian called Forest), which they covered, among other songs of the band Joy Division. In 2001, she lived for a while in London. When the record company Source Records finally released in March 2001, their first album as Kings of Convenience and gave some small concerts in Germany. A little later, a remix album was released, entitled Versus.

After that we heard nothing for a while more of them since Erlend Øye moved to Berlin and soon his first solo album Unrest (English restlessness ) recorded, which was published in 2003. Soon Bøe and Øye found but again the time einzuspielen songs for a new Kings Of Convenience album, so they released Riot on to Empty Street (Eng. turmoil on an empty road ) in June 2004.

The latest album Declaration Of Dependence date ( dt dependency declaration ) was published in October 2009, it was followed by a tour through Germany, among others.

Style

As the title of the first of them published album Quiet Is the New Loud ( dt is the new Quiet Loud) suggests, rest is the prevailing element in their music. The music of the first two albums is reminiscent of the early phase of Simon & Garfunkel, in particular the concept of acoustic guitar and quiet choral singing. The Unusual for today is that they use almost exclusively acoustic instruments (mainly guitars) for their music. Boes and Oyes intention is prudent with their quiet instrumentation and the relatively soft singing, telling stories with as dense, intense atmosphere.
