Kira is a Danish Dogme film of 2001. He tells the story of a mentally disturbed woman who after being released from psychiatry has difficulties to settle back into their family.
The screenplay was written by Ole Christian Madsen, who also directed together with Mogens Rukov. For his work, Ole Christian Madsen received the Robert Price of the Danish Film Academy in 2002. The actress Stine Stengade received both the Robert Award and the Bodil for her role as Kira. Moreover, the film was awarded at the International Film Festival of Heidelberg and Viareggio.
Action
Kira comes back from the psychiatric hospital, and received from her husband Mads, an architect who in her absence had an affair with Kira's sister Charlotte, and their two young sons.
It shows difficulties to find their way back to their old role as wife and mother. They suspected the new nanny of the family to have slept with her husband and throws her out of the house. At a welcome party for Kira she leaves abruptly society and takes refuge in her bedroom. Finally, they analyzed for their old father, who had once left Kira, Charlotte and her mother to lead his own life and now lives with a younger woman.
