Kira (Bhutan)

The Kira ( bhutanisch དཀྱི་ར་, དཀྱིས་རས་; Wylie: dkyi -ra, dkyis -ras ) is the national costume of the women of Bhutan.

The Kira is an ankle-length dress, which consists of a 1.4 m wide and ( depending on the person ) 2-3 m long woven fabric ( or several, narrow, sewn together ). The fabric is wrapped with a special technique to the body and a ceramic, a woven belt, held together. Over the shoulders of the fabric is fastened with a brooch ( coma). Under the long-sleeved blouse worn a Kira ( Wonju ) and a hip-length jacket over it ( Tego ). The social status is expressed by the pattern, the color choice and the ornaments of the substance.
