Geographical Location

Kirchheim am Neckar is located in a former loop of the Neckar, between Heilbronn (16 miles) and the county town of Ludwigsburg ( 21 km).

Neighboring communities

The neighboring municipalities are in the northwest of the city brackish home, in the north of the city Lauffen, in the east Neckarwestheim, all three in the district of Heilbronn, in the southeast Gemmrigheim, to the south and west Walheim Boennigheim the district of Ludwigsburg.

History

Kirchheim am Neckar was first mentioned in 1003 in a document of Emperor Henry II. Kirchheim had the status of an imperial village, whose citizens were not serfs and had to make no compulsory labor. With the increasing decline of imperial power Kirchheimer feared the covetousness of the neighboring nobility, and put themselves voluntarily in 1400 under the protection of the Counts of Württemberg. Count Eberhard V. 1477 confirmed the rights of Kirchheim in a charter of freedom on payment of an annual tax.

Religions

Since the introduction of the Reformation in the 16th century Kirchheim is predominantly Protestant. In addition to the evangelical Church of Mauritius there but now with the Marienkirche again a Roman Catholic church in the village. The Christian Center Kirchheim, however, belongs to the Union of Pentecostal Churches. In addition to the churches already mentioned, there is also a mosque.

Population structure

Kirchheim am Neckar has the highest proportion of foreigners in the Stuttgart region a high proportion of immigrants and 24.3 % ( as of 2011).

Coat of arms and flag

The coat of arms shows in blue a silver single-tower church with ridge turret. The municipality flag is white and blue. Coat of arms and flag were presented on 18 April 1966.

Kirchheim am Neckar maintains friendly relations since 1997 Piolenc in Provence in France.

Sponsorship

In 1986, the sponsorship for displaced Sudeten Germans from the community Stangendorf was acquired in Schönhengstgau.

Kirchheim is due to the Württemberg wine road that leads past many sights.

Economy and infrastructure

Kirchheim is a wine-growing village, which include documents for Großlage Stromberg in the field Württembergisch lowlands of the Württemberg wine region.

Traffic

With the junction Mundelsheim the Federal Highway 81, the community is connected to the motorway network. The Federal Highway 27 runs through Kirchheim.

The village lies on the Franconia Railway (Stuttgart - Würzburg), breakpoint is the Kirchheim (Neckar ) station. There are approximately in half-hour connections to regional rail trains in the direction of Stuttgart and Heilbronn. Bus services after Boennigheim, Gemmrigheim, Walheim and Besigheim.

Even with the ship Kirchheim is to reach the Neckar- passenger ship operated the pier below the railway station.

Education

The municipality has a primary and secondary school with Werkrealschule ( school on the layers). There are also two municipal and Protestant and a Roman Catholic school.
