The Segelfluggelände Kirchzarten is an airfield, which is located about ten kilometers southeast of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, between the municipalities Kirchzarten and upper Ried. It is the home airport of based in Freiburg and Kirchzarten Gliding Association Breisgau Association for gliding ( BVS ), who built the airfield and the local facilities in the 1970s. By 2009, two other gliding clubs (AKA Fly Freiburg and CFM Emmen things) have shared the airfield with the BVS. Since then, the flight operations have relocated to the airfield in Freiburg.

Flight operations

The flight season extends usually over the summer months from April to October on all weekends. During the winter months the aerodrome is unusable.

Currently only wind starts are allowed on the airfield Kirchzarten. Start of motorized aircraft are strictly limited due to local noise restrictions. Only on special occasions a glider tow approved.

Runway 18C/36C ( 1170 m) is used for the wind start-up operation, but mainly runway 36C due to local wind conditions. Landings are normally carried out on the two shorter runs, but with the silent wind conditions and low volume of traffic and the central slope is used in the opposite direction, to make up for time in flight operations.

Specifications

The aerodrome is approved for limited gliders, motor gliders and ultralight aircraft with PPR. Starts of motor-powered aircraft also require prior approval. The three grass runways are 1,170, 460, and 260 m long and have thus also for motor-powered aircraft sufficient landing distance. Fuels for aircraft are not available. Approximately 2,500 flight movements per year to be registered at the airfield Kirchzarten.

Facilities

The airfield Kirchzarten now has a hangar of the Breisgau Association for gliding three grass runways, a double drum winch, a club house, a tower and a nearby campsite. Weekends is locally opened the place with appropriate meteorological conditions of about 10 clock to 18 clock. Kirchzarten glider can be reached on the frequency 122.475 MHz.

Fliegergruppen

The airfield is also used by the 1962 gegründetem " Breisgau Association for gliding " (wildcards ). In addition, rare graduate from the glider Akaflieg Freiburg and the CFM Emmendingen their flights from the airfield Kirchzarten.
