Kirrberg is a district of the Saar district town of Homburg Saar Pfalz-Kreis. In the local dialect of the place name is pronounced Kerrbrich.

Location

Kirrberg is located on the eastern edge of the Saarland on the border to Rhineland- Palatinate. Major cities in the area are next to Homburg ( 5 km) still Zweibrücken (7 km ) and Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern (both about 35 miles). Kirrberg is crossed from east to west from Lambsbach.

History

As early as the Stone Age performed a swipe and commercial road through the Lambsbachtal as custodian finds prove. The north-facing elevations are still showing traces of early Celtic (1000-800 BC ) Height fortifications. The Salian Merburg seems to have lost its importance after the quarrel between the Emperor Barbarossa and Simon of Saarbrücken, because the important salt route followed from then on another route and no longer led by the Lambsbachtal. Even today, however, the northern route of the Palatinate Jakobswege this route and runs from Speyer Coming by Kirrberg - probably because of the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption - on to Hornbach.

Kirrberg, after having remained after the First World War as well as Bruchhof sand village in Germany, affiliated to the Saarland on 23 April 1949. The place is thus one of the youngest parts of the Saarland

As part of the Saarland administrative and territorial reform the then independent municipality on 1 January 1974 Kirrberg was assigned to the county town of Homburg and has since become a district.
