Kirsti Huke

Kirsti Huke ( * 1977 in Melhus ) is a living in Trondheim Norwegian jazz and rock singer.

Biography

Kirsti Huke received her musical education between 1993 and 1996 at the Heimdal videregående skole, a musically oriented high school. Afterwards she studied from 1996 to 2001 jazz singing at the conservatory in Trondheim. While still a student, she founded her own quartet in 1998, the first from Steinar Raknes ( bass), Håvard Wiik ( piano) and Håkon Mjåset Johansen (drums) existed. After several concerts this lineup disbanded in 2002.

In the spring of that year, the album created in collaboration Hukes Memoirs of Trondheim band The 3rd and the Mortal, with which she played several concerts in Norway, Mexico, the Netherlands and Germany in the rest of the year appeared. Recordings of completed in September / October 2002 Germany tour of The 3rd and the Mortal were released on the album Project Blue Book in 2005.

After the dissolution of her first quartet Huke put together a new, the next Raknes now the familiar from his collaboration with Chet Baker pianist Vigleik Storaas and Swedish drummer Erik Nylander belonged. The band set out with idiosyncratic interpretations of jazz standards quickly made a name. The first CD of the quartet was a long time in coming. It was published under the title Deloo in 2007, but garnered great reviews in Norway. In addition to classics like Old Country ( Curtis Lewis and Nat Adderley ) or Caravan ( Duke Ellington ) can be found on the album customized versions of the Pink Floyd hits Wish You Were Here and the ballad Not Dark Yet by Bob Dylan. Like other Scandinavian vocalists of her generation (eg, Rebekka Bakken, Hanne Hukkelberg Stina Nordenstam or ) Kirsti Huke comes from a wide jazz concept or deliberately works across genres. The second, published in spring 2009 CD of the quartet consisted mainly of original compositions and opened more clearly to the rock genre. The song Poor Tom Led Zeppelin is the only cover version on this album.

Their versatility also presented in numerous side projects to the test. In 2005, she joined the existing since 1997 indie rock band Phy, which started a few songs in Oslo in the new line- up. As a member of Tom 's Diner, the trio of Norwegian Samba and Bossa Nova guitarist Tom Steinar Lund, she has performed at several festivals. They also stood several times with the Norwegian jazz pianist Egil Kapstad and guitarist Åge Aleksandersen on stage. As the lead singer of the ensemble Moving Oos on which ( eg Dadafon ) participate in numerous musicians of the Trondheim scene, she took in 2007 and 2008 two CDs. The band is based in their mix of rock, gospel, soul and funk to the music of the year 1967 until 1974.

Kirsti Huke is a sister of the poet Marte Huke.
