Neighboring communities

At Kißlegg following municipalities border on: to the north the city of Bad Wurzach, in the east of the city Leutkirch, in the south the municipality Argenbuehl and the town of Wangen im Allgäu and in the west the municipalities Vogt and Wolfegg.

Kißlegg consists of the six districts Kißlegg, Sommersried, Emmelhofen, Wiggen Reute, Waltershofen and Immenried.

Reserves

Directly west of the town center lies the Kißlegg approximately 26 -acre nature reserve Zeller. It serves as a habitat and refuge for a diverse and endangered animal and plant world. In the surrounding area there are further protected areas: the Arrisrieder moss that Gründl Ried- Rötseemoos that Moore and ponds to fountains and the Sigrazhofer Ried.

History

On a settlement in the Roman period indicates a rich hoard in Upper Horgen. In the 8th century Leutkircher priest Ratpot founded on the shore of Lake Zell, a cell (home and church), which was first mentioned as 824 Ratpotiscella documented and developed until the beginning of the 9th century to the village. To 850 the place came into the possession of the monastery of St. Gall, which an estate (also Kellhof ), built between Zeller and Upper Lake, which included over 100 farmsteads of the area.

A noble family has been resident since the 9th century in the area and managed in addition to their own possessions as Meier (also called the cellar ) the goods of the St. Gallen Grange. Waltershofen

Matze Weiler

Culture and sights

  • Old castle: with its high stepped gables and four round corner towers, it was originally the seat of the Lords of Schellenberg, later the family Waldburg- Wolfegg who heard it yet today. The castle was built in 1560-1570 under Hans Ulrich von Schellenberg. In the northeastern bay Renaissance paintings have survived from 1580 with biblical scenes.   • Parish Church of St Gallus and Ulrich, built in 1734-1738 by Johann Georg Fischer by the conversion of a Gothic church predecessor. By Fischer's cheerful new building of the choir and the increase of the aisles, the stucco of Johannes Schütz and the painting of Franz Anton Erler and Benedict Gambs the Younger was born while largely retaining the older buildings one of the most beautiful baroque churches in the region. She was last from 1974 to 1980 completely renovated. The church contains a Madonna of 1623 (Hans Zürn the Elder.   • Cemetery chapel of St. Anne, 1718-1723 to a design Johann Georg Fischer built by the architect Hans Jacob Graßer and the Augsburg Stuckator Hans Herkommer. The church is equipped with a cycle of frescoes by Cosmas Damian Asam with scenes from the life of St. Anne, a baroque high altar and side altars of 1718 by 1722/1723.
  • Chapel of the Heilig-Geist- Spital, founded by Hans Ulrich von Schellenberg 1575, with panel paintings and wooden statues from the 15th to the 19th century. The altar contains a painting of the Pentecost event of Leopold Greising ( 1709).
  • Hospital bears hamlet, well-preserved overall system of a hospital foundation in the 17th century for the infirm, elderly and poor (donated in 1619 by Maria Anna Countess of High Nemes ). The chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity contains altars of the late 18th century.
  • Sanctuary of Our Lady Queen of Angels in Rötsee, grave lay the blessed Ratperonius ( 10th century ). Datable are the choir from 1449 and renovations in 1580 and 1748.   • Balloonist meeting at Epiphany. Every year on January 6, numerous balloonists take in Kißlegg. In the evening a balloon glow will take place. The strength of the event is visited, greatly depends on the weather. Balloon Glow 2009
