Kit Bond

Kit Bond ( born March 6, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri; actually Christopher Samuel Bond ) is an American politician and was a member of the U.S. Senate for the state of Missouri. He also practiced twice from the Office of the Governor. He was the 47th and 49th Governor of that State.

Early years

Kit Bond attended Princeton University and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He then studied at the University of Virginia law. There he also made his law degree in 1963. He then worked as a lawyer.

Political career

In 1969, Bond was Deputy Attorney General of Missouri. In this capacity, he was responsible for consumer protection. He was elected as a candidate of the Republican Party as the new governor of his country in 1972. Bond took office on January 8, 1973. He supported the civil rights laws, which earned him the criticism of some conservative circles. In 1976 he canceled officially directed against the Mormon expulsion from the year 1838. During the same year, Bond presented for re-election, but was defeated his Democratic challenger Joseph Teasdale. In the following years he was President of a non profit oriented on the legal foundation ( Great Plains Legal Foundation ). In November 1980 he was elected a second time as governor. His second term began on January 12, 1981 and ended on 14 January 1985. It was uneventful. His successor was the later U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

From 1987 to 2011 Kit Bond represented his country in the U.S. Senate. He succeeds of not more candidates Thomas Eagleton, where he prevailed over Missouri's Deputy Governor Harriett Woods. He was re-elected three times, most recently in 2004 with 56 percent of the vote against Nancy Farmer ( 42.8 percent). He was a member of several committees; Moreover, he was twice before the United States Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. In the 2010 election Bond no longer went to.

From 1995 divorced with Carolyn Reid comes from the son of Sam, who knew as a member of the United States Marine Corps his service in Iraq. 2002 married Kit Bond then Linda Pell.
