Kitakyushu Monorail

The monorail Kitakyushu is part of the public transport of the Japanese city of Kitakyushu on the island of Kyūshū. She was commissioned on 9 January 1985 and consists only of the Kokura Line (Japanese小 仓 线, Kokura -sen, officially :北九州 高速 鉄 道 小 仓 线, Kitakyushu Kosoku tetsudō Kokura -sen, dt Kitakyushu high speed rail Kokura - line ). This runs in a north -south direction.

In 1998 it was extended to the north to a stop and directly into the reception hall of the station of Kokura ( the main train station of Kitakyushu ) out, so that the total length of the network so that a total of 8.8 km with 13 stops is. The monorail is owned by the City Kitakyushu. Until the expansion in the Kokura train station, the train was in the red. This expansion came originally on resistance of the business in the shopping area Uomachi who feared for their sales. This fear proved to be unfounded.

Once a year there is a beer and wine celebration that is celebrated in the monorail. Another attraction is that on December 24 mitfährt Santa Claus on the trains.

Further expansion

Currently there are no plans to build another line or to expand the existing one.
