Kittitas is a city in Kittitas County and is located in Washington State in the U.S..

Geography

The city is located about 250 kilometers southwest of Spokane, 150 km southeast of Seattle, 10 kilometers west of Ellensburg and right on the Interstate 90 highway.

History

The name of the town goes back to the living there counting to the indigenous people of the Yakama Kittitas Indians. In 1847, the Pacific Railroad was established, which also led through the territory of present-day Kittitas. The place was soon applied it as a supply depot for the railway line. Thus, the surrounding region was linked by the Milwaukee Road with much of the country. From 1905 to connect through the Cascade Range between Chicago and Seattle was established. Since 1980, however, only the Midwest served.

The city is today home or crossing point of tours on foot, on horseback, by bike or mountain bike, 50 kilometers away from Cle Elum Lake and along the John Wayne Pioneer Trail through very varied terrain up to Idaho.

Demography

In July 2009 there was a population of 1131 people, which means an increase over 2000 of 2.4%. The average age was 31.8 years with the 2009 acquisition.
