Kiyohide Shima

Shima Kiyohide (Japanese志摩 清 英; * February 25, 1878; † 7 November 1973) was a vice admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Between 15 November 1939 and the October 15, 1940 Shima Kiyohide was Chief of Staff of the Maizuru Naval District. During the Pacific War, he commanded the middle of January 1942, a convoy fleet to the conquest of Rabaul and later the invasion fleet, the island of Tulagi north of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands took on 3 May 1942. As of February 5, 1944 him the command of the 5th Fleet was transferred.

In the sea and air battle of Leyte Gulf, between 23 and October 26, 1944 Shima commanded the existing two cruisers and seven destroyers " Second attack fleet " of the southern armed forces of the Japanese, who the Battle of Surigao Strait against the odds the Allies lost.

Between 10 May 1945 and the November 30, 1945 Shima Kiyohide was commander of the Takao Guard District. In the first month of his service to him also the 1st Air Fleet was placed there under.

Shima Kiyohide died 1973.
