Kjell Sjöberg

Kjell Sjöberg Allan ( born May 11, 1937 in Själevad; † September 10, 2013 in Örnsköldsvik ) was a Swedish ski jumper.

Career

Sjöberg began his international career with the launch at the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley. There he reached the normal hill to 45th place. Despite the mediocre success, he was involved in the following season firmly in the Swedish squad and jumped his first jump on December 30, 1960 in Oberstdorf in the Four Hills Tournament 1960/61. He was able to climb the podium with 2nd place for the first time. In Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he jumped again in the top ten and finished sixth. After two more good finishes in Bischofshofen and Innsbruck, he ended the tour on the 6th place in the overall standings. Also in the Four Hills Tournament 1961/62 he jumped in the first two competitions in Oberstdorf and Innsbruck in the top ten, but missed after poor rankings in the other two competitions a position in the overall standings. Soon afterwards, he was able to secure the Swedish championship title on the normal hill. At the Olympic Winter Games 1964 in Innsbruck on the big hill he reached the 5th place and on the normal hill 33rd place. In 1966 he again won the Swedish Championship. Shortly thereafter, Sjöberg started at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1966 in Oslo. There he jumped on the normal hill to 6th place and won the large hill behind Bjørn Wirkola and Takashi Fujisawa the bronze medal. On February 10, 1967 Sjöberg improved drawn up by the Norwegian Lars Grini on the same day ski flying world record at the Heini Klopfer ski jump in Oberstdorf by one meter to 148 m. However, the record was only a day before it was the Norwegians again break. Its active ski jumping career ended Sjöberg with the launch at the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble. There he was able to achieve on the big hill again with jumps of 85.5 and 73.0 m the 53rd place.
