Kjerag

Kjerag or Kiragg is a rock plateau in the Norwegian municipality Forsand ( Rogaland county) on the Lysefjord.

The highest point of the plateau is about 1110 moh. In the western part of the plateau is the Kjeragbolten (see picture), make a 5 m³ big monolith that is trapped in a crevice of 1000 meters above the Lysefjord. Furthermore, there is a small, 715 m high waterfall ( Kjeragfossen ).

Kjerag is next to the Preikestolen one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region and a popular starting point for base jumpers.

In the nearly 1,000 -meter-high north wall there are several free climbing routes and also "Big Walls" (technical climbing). The rock is vertical to overhanging and of good to excellent quality. Best time for climbing is July / August. Leaders there at Stavanger Climbing Club ( " BRV ").

The trail begins at the Kjerag Øygardstølen, restaurant 640 m above Lysebotn. From there the trail in about 2.5 hours through some arduous terrain to Kjerag, the way back via the same route and takes about the same time. The road is at times secured by iron chains. It leads to an increase again through a valley, which is characterized by swampy terrain.
