Klaus Martin Ziegler

Klaus Martin Ziegler ( born February 23, 1929 in Freiburg im Breisgau, † September 22, 1993 in Kassel ) was a German choral conductor, organist and Protestant church music ( church music director ).

His conductor exam, he graduated from 1948-50 at the Badische Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. He then studied at the Institute for Church Music Heidelberg 1950-52 as a student of Wolfgang Fortner, Meinhard Hermann Poppen and Gerhard Nestler. Career 1952-54 were as cantor in Karlsruhe- Rüppurr and 1954-60 as a cantor at the Christ Church Karlsruhe. In 1957 he became head of the church music department at the Baden School of Music. In the same year he took a teaching position at the University of Education Karlsruhe. From 1960 to 1993 he was cantor at St. Martin's Church in Kassel. There he founded in 1965 the Vocal Ensemble Kassel, with whom he appeared at the Donaueschingen Music Days. In 1967 he was appointed director of church music. He became artistic director of the Evangelical School of Church Music Schlüchtern 1968. From 1970 to 1981 he took a teaching position for new music and choral conducting. He was also director of Kantorei choir at the Westphalian School of Church Music Herford. From 1981 to 1987 he headed the Südfunk Choir Stuttgart. This choir gave a new artistic profile by he committed himself to new music for composers such as Luciano Berio, Dieter Schnebel, Mathias Spahlinger and Adriana Hölszky. With the foundation of the Kassel Music Days with the surtitles "New Music in the Church" that emerged from the post-Easter " week for spiritual music of the present ," he made Kassel became a center of the new spiritual music. Numerous religious works were premiered under his direction, including " We have a hope " by Dietrich von Bausznern (1965 at the Donaueschingen Music Festival ) and the Mass " prayer of the poor soul " of Gislher adhesive (1966 at the Kassel Music Days ).
