Kleinwelka, Sorbian Maly Wjelkow, since 1 January 1999, a district of the city of Bautzen in Saxony and was previously an independent municipality. Originally belonged to the district of the villages Großwelka, Lubachau and Kleinseidau, but these count since 2007 as a separate districts.

History

The place was in 1345 for the first time mentioned. The village chronicle to the early 15th century.

1751 could be at the invitation of the sorbent Matthew Lange ( Matej Dołhi ) members of the Moravian Church in Kleinwelka down. They founded the colony Kleinwelka they developed according to the architectural ideas of the Free Church. Center of the town has since become the Moravian church hall.

Played an important role from 1778 boarding school for children of missionaries ( boys 'and girls' institution ). In connection with the Battle of Bautzen in Kleinwelka it came to fighting in which French and Bavarian soldiers were killed on 20 May 1813. Near the water tower in Kleinwelka there is a memorial stone.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia Arnost Muka determined in the eighties of the 19th century had a total population of 605 inhabitants in the colony and village Kleinwelka; which were 196 Sorbs ( 32%) and 409 German. The maze was created in 1992 by private initiative of the Frenzel family after a plan by Manfred Frenzel. The rectangular system of over 5000 m² of floor space is divided into three sections: a hedge maze, an adventure maze with various climbing equipment and a puzzle maze, in which there are thirteen fields with different categories of questions. The planting consists of 3800 evergreen trees of life. The shortest Zielweg measures 356 meters, the longest 1053 meters. The miniature park was opened in 1998. The 60 -acre resort with over 600 characters in 90 scenes was created by Tom Glöß. He himself has Turned Most of the wooden figures.
