Kleophon Painter

The Kleophon - painter is a painter of the Attic red-figure - style. He appeared in the second half of the 5th century BC

The Kleophon - painter was a pupil of the vase painter Polygnotos. He received the Notnamen due to a Kalos name used by him. His works are simple and seriously, even if he is not the best artist. His characters are fleshy and full, his heads seem beautiful and sublime. He painted especially larger vessel forms, which he tried on various forms. Particularly characteristic are the Komo shown scenes that actually belong to the archaic time for him. One of his best known works of a volute krater from Spina shows an Apollonian sacrificial procession. Reminds you of the resultant about the same time frieze of the Parthenon. On a Loutrophoros with the representation of warriors in a cemetery he sits on a larger scale, a white paint, which was rather unusual at that time. The Dinos Painter is in direct tradition of Kleophon Painter.
