Knick-Ei

The kink - egg of Halstenbek in the district of Pinneberg was a sports hall construction with an egg-shaped glass dome, which collapsed during construction due to static errors in the construction several times, and thus became known throughout Europe. The construction was started in September 1995. A completion was not undertaken; from January 2007, the building was finally demolished.

Chronological Overview

It was planned to the sports hall of André Poitiers and his architectural firm Poitiers & Partner. The Stuttgart structural engineers Schlaich Berger and Partner (SBP ) provided the calculations. The total cost amounted to approximately 8.3 million euros by 2005.

Construction began in 1995. Shortly before the opening fell on February 5, 1997, the metal structure of the roof. On 26 June 1998, in turn, just before the opening, was the second collapse of the roof. In February 2002, decided to Halstenbeker local council to build the hall again. It was planned to complete the construction with a robust glass roof in the spring of 2003. This plan was not implemented.

On 18 July 2005, the municipality decided to completely demolish the buckling egg and build a conventional gym. As the Mayor Bruno Harrow lodged appeal against this decision because of legal concerns, the decision was withdrawn on 15 August 2005. A conducted December 11, 2005 citizen survey yielded as a result, that there should be no reconstruction. Demolition work began in January 2007. This lasted until March 2007. Subsequently, the area was filled with sand.

In June 2007, the negotiations for a settlement out of court were begun. In September 2008, an agreement was reached and the structural engineers paid a compensation of 2.3 million euros to the municipality.
