Kockums Crane

The Kockumskran ( swedish Kockumskranen ) was a 138 -meter high gantry crane with a lifting capacity of 1500 tons, the Kockums shipyard in Malmö. The 1973/1974 built Kockumskran, which was dismantled in the summer of 2002, was not only one of the largest cranes in the world, but also a landmark of Malmo.

Shortly after completion, the shipyard was affected by an economic downturn, so that the crane could hardly be used. The last time it was used in 1997 to raise the foundations of the Öresund Bridge and to ship. A sale of the crane has already been decided at the beginning of the 1990s, but went the Danish Burmeister & Wain buyer in bankruptcy. Finally, the crane at Hyundai Heavy Industries was sold for $ 1 and shipped to Ulsan, South Korea.

Trivia

Since many residents of Malmö wept in removal of her landmark, the line of the Hyundai shipyard crane decided to christen the new site in the name of "Tears of Malmö ".
