Kohtla-Nõmme

The rural community of Kohtla- Nõmme ( Kohtla- Nõmme vald ) is located in Ida- Viru county in northeastern Estonia.

Description

Kohtla- Nõmme situated about ten kilometers from the town of Kohtla -Järve away. The rural municipality has an area of 4.7 km ². Then live 1,032 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2010).

The population density is 220 inhabitants per square kilometer. It is one of the smallest and also the most densely populated rural municipalities in Estonia.

The story of Kohtla- Nõmme is closely linked to the oil shale, which was mined here 1937-2001. The Mining Museum of Kohtla- Nõmme provides expert guided tours of the original tunnel.

Sendemast Kohtla- Nõmme

South of the town there is a 254 meter high radio mast for distribution of TV and FM radio programs. He is the fourth tallest structure in Estonia since 1984.
