Koishikawa Kōrakuen Garden

The Koishikawa Korakuen (Japanese小 石川 后 楽 园) is an urban park (7 acres ) in the borough of Koraku Bunkyō, Tokyo, which has emerged from the garden of the former city residence of the Mito -han.

History

The system of Koishikawa Korakuen was started from the first head of the House of the Mito branch of the Tokugawa, Tokugawa Yorifusa 1629 but not completed until 1669 under his grandson Tokugawa Mitsukuni with the help of refugees from China scholar Chu Shun -shui.

The name Koraku for " Nachvergnügen " is a quote from Chinese writings, where s " garden " means.

The Korakuen is the oldest facility in Transition garden-style in Tokyo. Center of such gardens is almost always a pond that is fed by flowing water. Together with artificial hill as a miniature landscape is created that invites you to by walking.

Description

The Kōrakuen contains allusions to Chinese and Japanese landscapes, the latter especially in regard to Kyōto. Among the " reproduced " Chinese landscapes, for example, belongs to the small Lu Mountain, the famous dam by the West Lake. The Island of the lucky ones who Horai Island, located in the central waters. And so that no one is too short, the hill of the island is a shrine dedicated to the goddess Benzaiten. Among the allusions to Kyoto include the Togetsu Bridge, Tsuten Bridge, the Ōi River and the Kiyomizu Temple. Copied from the mountains behind Osaka there is the Tatsuta River, which is famous for its maple trees, from Central Japan we find the Kiso River. The semicircle of stone ENGETSU - bridge forms with its mirror image a full moon = ENGETSU. On some separate part of the garden began earlier the residence. The Koishikawa, a small stream, which gave its name to the area, supplied this garden with water before it passes the Naruto Whirlpools (this is the whirlpool in the eastern Strait between Shikoku and the main island ) and arrives finally in the Sumida River.
