The monastery Kolbatz (Latin Mera Vallis; Polish Opactwo Cystersów w Kołbaczu ) was a Cistercian abbey in Pomerania. The monastery is located in the homonymous village Kołbacz ( Kolbatz ), 22 km south-east of Szczecin and now belongs to the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The monastery was an important cultural center and colonization of Pomerania.

History

The monastery was founded by Kolbatz Stettin in 1173 by the Castellan Wartislaw II and settled in 1174 by the Danish Esrom Monastery ( Esrum ) from the filiation of Clairvaux Abbey Primary. Prince Bogusław I. confirmed to the monastery all conferred by Wartislaw II privileges and possessions. The monastery was granted the right to settle in its sole discretion in his land colonists.

Kolbatz monastery was an important center for Christianity and the economic transformation of the area east of the Oder. Daughter monasteries were Kolbatz monastery Oliva, Convent Marienwalde ( Bierzwnik ) and monastery sky Städt ( Miro Nice).

The monks laid in 1183 the bed of Płonia to obtain a convenient access to the dam 's lake. The lands of the monastery were almost entirely by donations. Conflicts over land ownership gave it to the Knights of St. John in the second half of the 13th century. In the first half of the 14th century there was a dispute with the Stargard Goleniowska Heath. 1535 the monastery was closed and converted into a ducal office. 1811, the corresponding domain Kolbatz was sold to the Amtsrat Gaede, who later passed on to the merchant and shipowner Swinemünder Friedrich Wilhelm Krause.

Buildings and plant

From the monastery, the church in the Romanesque style of the brick building and an annexe are still preserved. With the construction of the church began before 1201. The church was completed in 1300. She was a three-aisled cruciform brick basilica. The floor plan is the type Fontenay. The oldest parts are curved with tons and lunettes. In the chancel is an old yoke, in the arms of the cross are two, in the nave of eight bays. On the east side of the cross arms per two rectangular chapels. The High Gothic construction of the polygonal chevet was ordained in 1347. The star vaults over the transept date from around 1500. The west facade with a large rose window tracery was built around 1265/70. After a fire in 1682, the chapels of the southern transept and nave aisles were both canceled.

The exam is to the right of the church. Of the monastic buildings of the west wing is partially preserved and developed modern. Receive is also a Gothic barn.
