Kolesov RD-36-51

The Kolesov RD -36 -35 ( Reaktiwnij Dwigatjel -36 -35) is a Soviet TL- lift engine. It was developed under the direction of Pyotr Alexeyevich Kolesov in OKB -36 ( Rybinskije Monostroitjelnoje Konstruktorskoje Bjuro ( RMKB ) ).

Development

The development of the RD 36-35 began in 1960. In 1964, it was first tested. It is a small, compact turbojet engine ( turbojet ), which was designed specifically as a lift engine for VTOL-/STOL-Flugzeuge.

The OKB -36 emerged from the OKB Gluschenko and was later known as the Rybinsk engine design office. The series production of the engines took over the Rybinsk aircraft engine plant, which together with the former OKB -36 belongs to NPO Saturn today. For this reason, the engines are also sometimes called Saturn RD 36-35.

Due to the then customary in the Soviet Union secrecy is not very much is known about the development.

Installation options

The MiG- 21PD (also: Je- 7PD, MiG -23 -31, product 92), which served as a technology platform for the coming MiG -23, two lift engines in tandem by 80 ° were tilted backwards in 0.9 m extended center fuselage installed.
