Kollau (Tarpenbek)

The Kollau is a nearly eight -kilometer-long river in the north of Hamburg. It rises in the Schnelsen district, flows through Niendorf and Lokstedt and ends at the border to Groß Borstel in the Tarpenbek. All the way along the Kollauwanderweg pulls along the creek, from Niendorf enclosure it is additionally accompanied by tracks of the freight bypass Bahn Hamburg.

History and inflows

The Kollau originates at Vielohweg ( ⊙ 53.637999.92612 ) in Schnelsen and forms after about 200 meters along with the Dübwischgraben the retention basin " Kollauteich " ( ⊙ 53.635559.92974 ). Then the creek flows south and circled in a wide loop to the east Niendorf the enclosure. At the border to Groß Borstel it flows coming from the right in the Tarpenbek ( ⊙ 53.6056919.966072 ). With it, the water of the Kollau enters the Eppendorf Mill Pond and from there into the lake.

The only major tributary is the Mühlenau ( 53.6079799.924447 ⊙ ), which comes from Eidelstedt and opens right into Kollau shortly before Niendorf enclosure. In addition, some ditches carry water from the Kollau; shortly before the mouth is still flowing under the Schillingsbek the goods shunting path and into the Kollau.

Ecological value

The Hamburg biotope mapping describes the Kollau as " natural creek with disabilities ". On the nine -point scale of habitat evaluation, they thus reached the stage six. Bach is particularly limited by the regulation: The banks are straight, some with steep slopes and Bongossi obstruct. A further devaluation from an ecological perspective, the flood - retention basin is the main conclusion that the reduced patency. The Kollauer yard

The Kollauer farm is the oldest proven settlement in what is now Niendorf. 1184, certain of the archbishop of Bremen Siegfried that the Curia Burstolde have to apply to the Coldeloghe an annual fee of five marks for the maintenance of Hamburg Domschüler. The name Coldeloghe first designated a grain mill at an impoundment ( Quall ) the Tarpenbek and a cleared forest meadow ( Tan ) had been built. When they later moved the mill to the south leading into the Tarpenbek Bach, the name of the mill went on also to the small rivers.

As of 1341 the mill belonged to the monastery Jungfrauenthal. It was later abandoned in favor of the Eppendorf mill on the river Alster. In their place, 1591 was a powder mill, which flew into the air in 1660, but was rebuilt and produced until 1773 gunpowder. The farm was used in the subsequent period alternately as the summer residence of wealthy Hamburg merchants, restaurant and factory.
