Kolmården Wildlife Park

The zoo Kolmården ( di Kohlwald ) is a zoological garden located in the municipality of Norrköping. Kolmården is 250 hectares and 551,000 visitors per year ( as of 2008) the largest zoo in northern Europe. Main attractions of the park are its dolphinarium (the largest in Europe), the safari park and the birds of prey. Here live the Asian elephants of King Carl XVI. Gustaf.

Location

Kolmården is located approximately 30 kilometers north-east of Norrkoping, near the E4.

History

The Kolmården Zoo was opened in 1965 by Ulf Svensson. Four years later, the first dolphinarium in Northern Europe was added.

On June 17, 2012, a pack of wolves killed one of the animals familiar and experienced nurse. In the past it had already come several times to " minor incidents ".

Attractions

By the zoo is making a renewed in 2011 cableway. The original, opened in 1967 ropeway was dismantled. The new cable car has a length of 2.64 km and is equipped with 78 cage-like gondolas barred for eight people. The travel time is 26.5 minutes.

The zoo also has a rainforest with tropical birds, reptiles and crocodiles, and an aquarium with coral reef and hundreds of fish species, including ten sharks.

Opened in 1998 with the theme park Bamse 's World ( Bamses world, named after the cartoon character Bamse ) another attraction.
