The station Köln - Chorweiler is a common underground station S -Bahn Rhein-Sieg and the Cologne Stadtbahn in the center of Cologne Choir hamlet. From the Deutsche Bahn, the system is referred to internally with KKC, the Cologne Transport Authority to use the short name of CHW.

Genesis

The genesis of the U S - train station and the railway lines on which it lies, is closely linked to the development of large housing choral hamlet. Both the S- Bahn line, a loop of railway line between Cologne and Neuss, as well as the light rail, as an extension of the tram line to Longerich were built as infrastructure before the actual start of construction in the open field. The staggered start-up was based on the construction of both residential buildings: the former tram line 9 operated choral hamlet from the 17th November 1973, the S -Bahn line S11 ran from 1 June 1975 following Choir hamlet and became the May 22, 1977 by choral hamlet north extended.

Plant

The station consists of a 210 m long hall that is supported longitudinally by two rows of columns. On the west side, the two S- Bahn tracks are with two side platforms. The eastern platform is much wider and has the train opposite a platform edge for light rail. Behind the platform track of light rail is another, Platform -less track, which merges with the former turning loop. During the installation of the S -Bahn is largely unchanged since commissioning, the city railway station was rebuilt several times.

Conversions

At the inauguration of the Metro Station choir hamlet by the then line 9 was ( - Ebert space - Choir hamlet Neumarkt - Severin Bridge - Konigsforst ) Served with Duewag - articulated cars. Incoming trains drove through the first turn loop before they stopped at the platform. Since the plant was designed for high-floor light rail vehicles, the tracks had been increased for operation with tram cars with half a meter of additional gravel.

After the power switch of 1994 then drove the line 18 ( Chorweiler - Ebert place - Neumarkt - Velcro Mount - Brühl - Bonn) with B-car after choir hamlet. As a result of the conversion, the tracks were lowered to the initially envisaged and cut the turning loop no longer required for the bi-directional vehicles at one end. Incoming trains now reach the stop on the back track and go in the middle of the station on the platform track, where the exit of passengers carried. After the change of direction of the train passes over the track change prior to the beginning of the platform, where he picks up new passengers.

With the power switch in 2003, finally came the line 15 ( Chorweiler - Ebert place - Fries Place - Ubierring ) to choral hamlet. This line also initially wrong with B-car, but was intended to be shift to low-floor light rail vehicles. To prepare for this change, the light rail tracks in Chorweiler were aufgeschottert during the summer holidays in 2006 again. Since autumn 2006, the 15 is a low-floor line.
