The Kölpinsee is a belonging to the Mecklenburg Lake District lake district Mecklenburg Lake District, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It has a maximum width of about five kilometers and a length of about seven kilometers. The average depth is 3.5 meters. It lies between the Müritz in the east and the Fleesensee in the west and is crossed by the Elde from the east to the west. The entire Kölpinsee is part of the federal waterway Müritz- Elde waterway with waterway class I; responsible is the Waterways and Shipping Office Lauenburg.

The Kölpinsee located away from major settlements and is surrounded by forests in several protected areas (nature reserve Damerower Werder, Nature Reserve Blücher Bruch and resource plan ). The bison enclosure on the Damerower Werder peninsula is known on the northwest shore of the Kölpinsees. The name of the lake is of Slavic origin and means something like Swan Lake ( colpa = swan ).
