Königsbrück-Ruhland Heaths

The Koenigsbrueck - Ruhlander Gentiles are a natural area in Saxony and Brandenburg. This is located in the vicinity of the two eponymous towns Koenigsbrueck and Ruhland, which although located in two different states, historically belong to the Upper Lusatia and border towns of the specification. In the west the Großenhainer care closes at, in the east, the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond area. The south is linked with the West Lusatian hill and mountain country.

The Konigsbriicker heath and heather Ruhlander consist of sandy- gravelly sediments. In part, quicksand ceilings and dunes to be found. Only in a few places protrudes through the basement of granodiorite and greywacke. The sandy soil can not hold long rain water, also flowing and standing waters are below average to be found. Therefore, this natural area has a very dry character and a particularly high risk of forest fires, despite average rainfall between 600 and 700 mm.

Since the floors are in addition to the drought also largely spoken in nutrients, most of the farmers of this region in historical times were relatively poor compared to those in the West Lusatian hills. Moreover sat down because of this fact relatively early large-scale farmers through.
