The National Park Centre King chair is the visitors center of the Jasmund National Park on the island of Rügen. It was opened in 2004. History and Development of the Centre

Due to the fascination with the impressive chalk cliffs already existed in the 19th century need for some amenities at this outstanding place. During the Second World War to 1943, it served as a military hospital. Later, it occupied the Red Army. The GDR border troops ( Border Brigade coast) used this building as a barracks later. 1990 the GDR Council of Ministers decided to declare this area as a national park. Until 1999 the area lay fallow and the building fell rapidly. In 2000, the watchtower and the barracks were demolished ( except for one ). Since not another inn for tourists to be erected, founded, WWF Germany, Mecklenburg -Vorpommern and the town of Sassnitz Sassnitz Stubnitzhaus gGmbH. A project was launched to build a nature information center. In March 2004, the present National Park Centre Koenigsstuhl was opened.

Zero - emissions concept

The National Park Centre King chair was designed as a zero - carbon houses.

The power supply to the house is via a photovoltaic system. Since the focus is on one of the sunniest places in Germany, the plant can produce up to 18 KW. To use the geothermal energy for power generation for heating, air conditioning and hot water, a geothermal system was installed in the open area of the National Park Centre. New technologies, sustainable management of drinking water is ensured. The drainage concept is determined by a strict separation of the waste water generated on the degree of pollution. Effluents are derived using gravity- fed to a fat separator and fed to the pre-treatment wetland. The thus purified water meets its limits in the EU Bathing Water Directive. The purified water is used exclusively for a secondary use for toilet flushing.

Arrival / routes in the National Park

Until the large car park Hagen you can drive up by car to about three kilometers to the king chair. From there by bus. In order to reduce the volume of traffic in the National Park, it is recommended to upgrade already outside the boundaries of the national park on buses. The main public road in the national park runs from Sassnitz Hagen and Nipmerow to Lohme and cuts the National Park in north-south direction. This road has a branch in the tree house Hagen to Stubbenkammer and thus to the National Park Centre. This branch, however, is locked from 8:00 clock to 20:00 clock for general vehicular traffic.
