Konnevesi

Konnevesi [ ˌ konneʋ ʋesi ] is a municipality in Finland with 2908 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 60 km northeast of Jyväskylä in Central Finland landscape. Neighboring municipalities are Vesanto the north, Rautalampi in the east, Hankasalmi in the south, southwest and Äänekoski Laukaa in the west.

Konnevesi part of the historic landscape Savo and broke up in 1922 by the neighboring community Rautalampi. It was named after the lake community Konnevesi, which belongs 189 km ² of the larger lakes in Finland. One quarter of the municipality Konnevesi is covered by water, the length of the shore totals and 600 km.

The main attraction of Konnevesi is the 1923 -built granite church in the style of national romanticism. The Heritage Museum of Konnevesi over 20 historical buildings are on display from the 18th and 19th centuries. In Siikakoski at Konnevesi is a research station of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Sciences, University of Jyväskylä.

Policy

As in most rural areas of Finland is in Konnevesi the Centre Party, the largest party. In the local elections 2008, she received about half the votes in the city council and has, the highest decision-making body for local affairs, with 12 out of 21 deputies an absolute majority. The second largest group are the Social Democrats with four seats, followed by the left-wing alliance with three seats. One of its Members represent the conservative National Coalition Party and the Christian Democrats.
