Konstantin Flavitsky

Konstantin Dmitrievich Flawizki (Russian Константин Дмитриевич Флавицкий; * 13 Septemberjul / September 25 1830greg in Moscow, .. .. † 3 Septemberjul / September 15 1866greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian painter of historical scenes.

He received at the Imperial Academy of Arts, where he was a student of Fyodor Antonovich Bruni his artistic training. After he was awarded several awards for his drawings and sketches, he was awarded the Small Gold Medal for the painting Solomonisches court. A year later, he finished the course in academic rank of the painter and stage 4 with the Great Gold Medal, which he sell the paintings of Jacob sons of her brother Joseph. At the expense of the Academy, he made a journey to Italy in 1862 and returned back to Russia. With the painting Christian martyrs in the Colosseum, which is today in the Russian Museum, he was elected an honorary member of the Academy.

For the exhibition of the Academy in 1864 Flawizki painted the painting Death of Princess Tarakanova (now in the Tretyakov Gallery ). This painting made ​​him a widely publicized, brought the recognition of art connoisseurs and the rank of professor. But the painter should realize his talent in any other work of art. Even while working on Tarakanova paintings he suffered from tuberculosis, with whom he had been infected in Italy and has been getting worse in the climate of Saint Petersburg. Flawizki hoping for rescue by a trip to the south, but he died before he could leave.
