Konstantin Savitsky

Konstantin Savitsky Apollonowitsch (Russian Константин Аполлонович Савицкий, scientific transliteration Konstantin Apollonovič Savickij; born June 6, 1844, in Taganrog, † February 13, 1905 in Penza) was a Russian painter and teacher. His works are attributed to the realism and some impressionism in painting.

Life

He grew up the son of a former military doctor, a doctor at a school in Taganrog worked after leaving the army. Here he spent his childhood and youth. At an early age he became interested in painting. His first drawings and sketches were made on the Azov Sea, where he spent the holidays with his parents. At high school, he received drawing lessons. When he visited the fifth year of high school, his parents died unexpectedly. Konstantin Savitsky came then to his uncle, a brother of his father, who lived in present-day Latvia and became his guardian.

Here he attended a private boarding school. In 1862 he completed his training here and went to Saint Petersburg to enter the local art college. A personal acquaintance with outstanding representatives of Russian culture such as Ilya Repin, Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin, Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov, Mark Matveyitch Antokolski, Vasily Petrovich Stasov and Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin influenced his further development sustainable.

Savitsky soon became one of the best students of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Five of his images that emerged during the study, were awarded silver medals, for the painting of Cain and Abel ( Каин и Авель ) from the year 1871 he was awarded a gold medal. After completing his studies he went for two years abroad.

After his return to Russia, he was a partner at the Peredvizhniki. His painting track work ( Ремонтные работы на железной дороге ) was one of the first works of this period, who were dedicated to the life of the working class. Furthermore, he was involved in the creation of the painting Morning in the pine forest, which he painted in collaboration with Ivan Shishkin. He walked away but later his signature of this painting, so it is now Shishkin attributed alone.

The names of his works such as the spent ( Погорельцы ) taking off to war ( На войну ), The Shepherd ( Пастух ) Krutchnik ( Крючник ) and argument at the barrier ( Спор на меже ) provide information about the intention of his art. Much of his work is now in the galleries of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev.

Savitsky was more than two decades of educational activities in the art schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Penza after working. In 1897 he became a member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Among his many pupils was his son Georgi, who should also be a well-known painter. Konstantin Savitsky died 1905.
