Korarchaeota

Korarchaeota

The Korarchaeota (also Xenarchaeota ) are one only in 1996 described strain within the Archaea. They were defined by sequencing of the 16S subunit of their rRNA of the previously known Crenarchaeota and Euryarchaeota to. The question of whether these Archaea should be considered as own tribe or must be counted among the Crenarchaeota, is still unclear, as it is with them could also be a very unusual but fast mutation in the genome of the 16S rRNA.

Korarchaeota live in high temperate, hydrothermal habitats. The metabolic processes, especially metabolism, is obtained with the energy and carbon is unknown as yet. Currently, the genome of an enriched colony of Korarchaeota is sequenced.

Within the Korarchaeota yet no valid taxa were described to family, genus or species level. The known members run yet under informal names such as " Candidatus Korarchaeum cryptofilum OPF8 " in an informal genus " Candidatus Korarchaeum ".
