Kosów Lacki

Kosów Lacki is a town in Poland, in the Masovian Voivodship. It belongs to the powiat Sokolowski and is the seat of city and rural community.

Geographical Location

Kosów Lacki located in the northeast of the Masovian Voivodship, about 100 kilometers north- west of the state capital, Warsaw.

History

The first documentary mention of the place Kossowo dates from the year 1202. The first church was possibly already in 1300, other sources mention the year in 1425. 1723 the site was documented as a city for the first time. On March 18, 1778 King Stanisław August Poniatowski gave the place the right two weekly markets and four fairs per year to hold. During the partitions of Poland was Kosów Lacki part of Congress Poland. After the January Uprising of the Russian Tsar, a change of management structures by Congress in Poland and thereby lost the place in 1869 to be a town. In 1887 the port of the town to the railway network Siedlce after Małkinia. In September 1939, the town was occupied by the German Wehrmacht. After the end of the Second World War, the town is part of Poland. To 1 January 2000 Kosów Lacki was also awarded city status again.

Name

The town's name is on the word kos returned which means blackbird. The addition Lacki was later introduced to distinguish to another Kosów.

Traffic

By Kosów Lacki leads in a north-south direction, the Province Road 677 ( droga wojewódzka 677 ). To the south it ends after about 20 kilometers in Sokołów Podlaski. In the north, the 677 crosses some 30 km in Ostrow Mazowiecka the European Route 67 The Province Road 695 begins in Kosów Lacki and ends after only seven kilometers in an easterly direction to the junction with the main road 63

There is a track connection after Ostrołęka and Siedlce. On this but no regular passenger trains more.

The nearest international airport is the Frederic Chopin Airport Warsaw about 100 kilometers south-west.
