Kostas Polychroniou

Kostas Polychroniou (Greek Κώστας Πολυχρονίου; born November 12, 1936 in Platanistos, Euboea ) is a former Greek football player and football coach or team manager.

Life

Polychronious parents moved with him as an infant to Athens. His entire active footballer time from 18 years from 1954 to 1968 he spent at Olympiakos Piraeus. With Olympiakos he celebrated seven Greek championships and nine cup wins. There were five titles as Master of Piraeus and a gain of the Balkans Cup.

A special highlight of his Olympiakos time was in 1961 a 2-1 win in a friendly against Santos with Pele as an opponent. At the end of their European tour, the Brazilians were probably exhausted, but they had previously defeated AEK Athens 3-0 and Panathinaikos 3-2.

In the Greek national football team Polychroniou was appointed 1957-1967 a total of 27 times.

As a football coach, he was in the years 1979 to 2001, including as National Coach of 1994 to 1998. Associations which he supervised, were, with the exception of AS Rhodes and FC Paniliakos all on the Greek mainland. In the 1993/94 season, as he oversaw his original club Olympiakos, AEK Athens neighbor champion. In its balance sheet as a coach are 17 wins, 5 losses and ten draw to book.
