Koyulhisar

Koyulhisar, in ancient times Anniaca, is a small town and a district of Sivas Province in Turkey. The town has 4426 inhabitants Koyulhisar and the county 12,943 inhabitants. The county Koyulhisar located in the north of the province and borders the provinces of Giresun, Ordu and Tokat.

The town lies in the valley of Kelkit Çayı close to the E 80 about halfway between Amasya and Erzincan at the junction of a leading after Ordu on the Black Sea mountain road over the Pontic Mountains.

In the Roman period ( province of Galatia ) was the place Anniaca and stood with the west downriver located Neokaisareia (now Niksar ) in conjunction. The small Armenian capital Nicopolis is assumed near the present town Suşehri ( about 35 kilometers to the east ).

In the eventful history after the reign of the Ilkhanate (1256-1353) Koyulhisar belonged temporarily to Beylik of Sivas. Reigned 1386 the Emir of Niksar, a year later, the place was in the sphere of influence of Kadi Burhan al -Din (reigned 1382-1398 ), the 1394 of Mutahharten, the Emir of Erzincan was defeated. In the following centuries Koyulhisar was probably only a small market town to the residence of the Emir. The settlement was located below the fortress hill and lived on their vegetable fields in the flood plain. An increase in significance might have been connected with the caravans that along attracted to the east towards Konstantin Opel or Bursa on a side route on Kelkit River.
