Kriebstein

Kriebstein is a municipality in the district of Central Saxony. The administrative headquarters is located in the district Kriebethal.

Geography

Kriebstein is located about 20 kilometers southwest of chub and six kilometers northeast of the city Mittweida. The Zschopau, a tributary of the Freiberger Mulde flows on the path of Mittweida to Waldheim through the narrow and rocky Mittweidaer Zschopautal in which the Kriebstein and the eponymous castle are. This rugged rocky landscape is an attraction for many holidaymakers and thus forms the nucleus for the slow development of tourism in the community.

The community name Kriebstein stems from the landmark " Kriebstein " that is associated with the Kriebstein. A district with this name does not exist.

Adjacent communities are Eger, the city Mittweida, Rossau and Striegistal the city Roßwein and the city Waldheim.

History

Grünlichtenberg and Höckendorf was founded in the mid 12th century by German settlers.

In Höfchen GDR times of the Wismut the pioneer summer camp " Ernst Thalmann, " was built and operated.

Incorporations

The community Kriebstein was formed on 1 January 1994 by the merger of the former municipalities Ehrenberg, Höfchen and Kriebethal. Erlebach was incorporated shortly thereafter on March 1, 1994. On 1 January 1996 Reichenbach followed. Grünlichtenberg is since 1 January 1999, a part of the community.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

The south running A 4 is the Hainichen connection (about 8 miles) and the A14 running north can be reached via the connection chub - North (approx. 13 km).

Since the next train routes were far above the valley floor, end of the 19th century, a narrow-gauge railway was planned in Zschopautal, but never built. The overload of Waldheim station with the freight of paper mills (see also companies) but led in 1896 to the opening of a standard gauge branch line from Waldheim to Kriebetal, on to 1919 also took place excursions. In 1998, the freight was discontinued.
