The Krio is a common in Sierra Leone, based on English creole.

Krio is there first language for about 10 % of the population, 472 600 in 1993, and serves as a lingua franca in politics and trade. Krio is a tonal language, that is, the relative pitch of the syllables is distinctive, so meaningless distinctive. There are three Toneme: rising, falling and rise-fall. Approx. 4,000,000, the majority of the remaining population, Krio uses as Pidgin or second language. Some speakers is also available in the Gambia, Guinea and Senegal.
